Project Overview

Lumo is a conceptual GPS-enabled microchip designed to be safely implanted in pets, offering continuous location tracking without the need for external collars or devices. The goal of this project was to address a common pain point for pet owners, lost pets, by creating a permanent, low-maintenance solution that integrates directly into everyday life.

The project explores both the physical product and its supporting ecosystem, including a mobile interface, brand identity, and go-to-market strategy. By leveraging existing location networks and focusing on user convenience, Lumo positions itself as a next-generation alternative to traditional pet tracking methods.

Design Process

Brainstorming

The ideation process began with identifying everyday problems across multiple categories, including pet safety, convenience, and emerging technology. Through rapid brainstorming and concept sketching, the team explored a range of solutions before narrowing in on animal tracking as a high-impact opportunity.

Research
Research

Research

Research focused on existing pet tracking solutions, including GPS collars and microchips, revealing key limitations such as battery life, accuracy, and user inconvenience. Additional insights were gathered on pet owner behaviors, veterinary safety standards, and advancements in wearable and implantable technology to ensure the concept was both innovative and realistic.

Logo Concepts

The Lumo brand identity was developed to feel modern, trustworthy, and tech-forward. Logo explorations centered around combining a paw icon with signal or connectivity elements to visually communicate tracking and protection. Iterations experimented with neon gradients, soft glows, and minimal line work to create a distinctive and memorable mark.

Projected Financials

A preliminary financial model was developed to evaluate the feasibility of the product. This included projected unit sales, pricing strategy, cost of goods, and operational expenses. The analysis demonstrated strong potential for profitability within the first year, with a clear break-even point and scalable growth opportunities.

User Persona

The target user is a tech-savvy pet owner who values safety, convenience, and peace of mind. This persona is likely to invest in premium products that simplify daily life and protect their pets. Key motivations include preventing loss, reducing anxiety, and having instant access to location data through a mobile device.
